Baptist Distinctives: Church Membership
Hebrews 13:17; 1 Corinthians 12:4-31

The local church is the visible expression of the larger (universal) body of Christ (Acts 2:41).

Church membership is an expression of submissive obedience to God (Hebrews 13:17).

The church is the locus for the proper practice of:

• Leadership accountability (Heb. 13:17).
• Church discipline (Matt. 18:17; 1 Cor. 5:12-13).
• Spiritual gift utilization (1 Cor. 12:4-31).
• God’s kingdom ministry (1 Tim. 5:9; Acts 13:1-4).
