#217 [Web TV] Alone in a Virtual World

Listen Later

Working from home is the holy grail for many of us. After all, what could be more perfect? You get to choose your hours, be there for family, don’t have to travel to work or get dressed up and you even get to duck down the beach in the middle of the day.
And you’re always surrounded by work mates, who you laugh with in the tea room and…………Oh hang on….no you don’t. That’s right, you’re actually alone most of the time and it can get really, really lonely.
So how do you stay motivated when you work in a virtual world? That’s the question Sue Collyer from http://www.asksusanne.com/asked and I answer in this week’s short video.
I’m an extrovert who gets energy from being around people so I had to come up with survival strategies quickly or go crazy. I share with you 3 strategies I use to keep me motivated and happy plus I also share a business opportunity I see for Sue or maybe even you?
Cheers

Janet
P.S. I mention the power of a mastermind in the video. I feel so strongly about the power of the collective that I created the Wonderful Web Leaders program and the culture of caring that has developed in this group should be bottled! You can find out more over here: www.WonderfulWebLeaders.com

Hello and welcome Janet Beckers here with your Wonderful Web TV tip of the week. Today I’m answering a question from one of the members of our community, it’s a little bit long but it’s worth reading out okay?
It’s Susan Collyer. How do you stay motivated in the virtual world? I’m a virtual assistant and I find it hard to keep focused on my website and blog and social media and posting content, because I seem to be in my own little world and after I’ve replied to help my clients, she’s got no energy left to think up any content for post. Sometimes it gets lonely here with my computer and as I live in a small town, there’s no VAs I can connect with.
You know what? I can so relate to that Susan, We have this wonderful dream that we can work from home, we’ve got all that beautiful flexibility which is wonderful. But there is the flip side that comes from that is that it can be incredibly isolating to be working from home and to not have other people around you and you can start to feel, you can start to lose your energy for your business.
So let me tell you a couple of things that I do and also a business opportunity I see for you here girlfriend. Number one is I’ve got to get out of the house and I have to go and see friends. So in the idle weeks I’ll be doing this a few times per week where I combined seeing some friends with doing some exercise and getting outside. It just sets me up completely for the day because I’ve already started the day connecting with people. It’s really, really important especially somebody like me that gets energy from being around other people, like an extrovert does. That’s the number one thing to do.
The other thing to do is you need to set some time aside that you are going to be working on your own business. It’s great you’ve got these wonderful clients, but if you want to keep them coming in, you still need to market your business, if you try to do that after you’ve been doing everything for your clients, it’s really difficult if you found to keep the energy going. So you need to schedule yourself in as a client in your calendar for certain time per week. It may very well be at the beginning of the day before you’re actually going to be dealing with your clients. Schedule that in,
