Bad days happen, but what can we do to boost those blues and pivot toward happiness. In this 2-part series we’ll give you tons of ideas.
Transcript:
Welcome to Everyday Happiness where we create lasting happiness, in 2 minutes a day, through my signature method of Intentional Margins® (creating harmony between your to-dos and your priorities), happiness science, and musings about life.
I'm your host Katie Jefcoat and I recently posted on my Facebook friends asking them for mood boosting tips when they are feeling less than happy and they need a reset. I was so surprised by their great ideas that I am sharing some with you today and tomorrow.
Look, bad days happen. No one is always happy. That’s not the goal. We need to feel all of our emotions when we have them. This discussion is for the time when your coffee machine breaks -- can you imagine the horror? Or your car won’t start, or you get pooped on by a bird when walking to a really important meeting while you are dressed in your power suit, ready to impress. Yeah, that happened to me. It was not pretty. But we survive, right?
So, maybe it feels like it’s been a long week and it’s time to reset, shake out the old and invite in a different mood. That’s what we’re talking about today and tomorrow.
The overwhelming theme from my friends was to get outside and go for a walk. The fresh air. Moving the body. This seems to be a great start for so many. But that’s not all, listen to some of these great ideas:
My friend Amie shared with us her tip to do 30 minutes of red or blue light therapy. Alright, this one got me. I have to Google this to figure it out, but it sounds cool, so I’ll be off to hang out on Google after the episode.
A lot of friends said meditation. And my friend Mathew had a great reset that I need to try, he said try taking a relaxing shower and throw in some lavender salts too. Now that sounds delightful.
I love the idea of a dance break, something to move my body, even pushups or jumping jacks.
My friend Chris and I think a couple others said playing with their dog or journaling. Both great ideas.
My friend C Lee loves to focus her mind on something productive and positive that’s quick, like cleaning out a drawer, a crossword puzzle, something with quick satisfaction. I mean, brilliant, right?
Tomorrow, I'll give you the juiciest of tips for beating the blues with Karsta and Laura’s tips, along with some research I found on this very subject. Until next time.
