How do you spend New year’s eve?

もうすぐ大晦日ですね。

皆さんはいつもどんな大晦日を過ごしますか？

私は日中は特に決まったことはしませんが、

夜は紅白歌合戦という歌番組を家族と見ながら、

年越しそばを食べるのが恒例です。

これは多分一般的ではないですが、

おせち料理もこの時に食べ始めることが多いです。

考えてみると、40年近くこれを毎年しています😂

もうすぐ おおみそかですね。

みなさんは いつも どんな おおみそかを すごしますか？

わたしは にっちゅうは とくに きまったことは しませんが、

よるは こうはく うたがっせん という うたばんぐみを

かぞくと みながら、としこしそばを たべるのが こうれいです。

これは たぶん いっぱんてきでは ないですが、

おせちりょうりも このときに たべはじめることが おおいです。

かんがえてみると、よんじゅうねんちかく これを まいとし しています。

New Year's Eve is coming soon.

How do you usually spend New Year's Eve?

I don't have any particular plans during the day,

but at night, it's tradition for me to watch the Kohaku Uta Gassen

music show with my family and eat toshikoshi soba noodles.

This probably isn't common, but we also often start eating

osechi dishes around this time.

Come to think of it, I've been doing this every year

for nearly 40 years now.

/ soba noodles eaten on New year’s eve

※ We eat soba hoping we can live a long life

like soba. (Soba noodles are long.)

紅白歌合戦

（こうはく うた がっせん）

※ It’s a music TV show that has been on air

every New year’s eve, for 100 years (!).

Female musicians join the red team,

and male musicians join the white team.

They sing by turns and at the end of the show,

audience vote whichever team they like.

※紅 = red

白 = white

歌 = sing

合戦 = battle
