#23: IOT & Agent-Based Modeling Simulates Impact of Refugees on Cities (Ali Termos)

Listen Later

What happens when a city experiences a 40% increases in population due to man-made or natural disasters?  This happened in Beirut during the Syrian civil war.  The World Bank charged Dr Ali Termos from the American University in Bulgaria to model the impact to housing prices, housing construction, and other city services due to massive influx of refugees.  Dr. Termo's paper provides insights into how city administrators should react to man-made or natural events that disrupt large populations.  In the podast he discusses his innovative use of Agent-Based Modeling, and also how he used IOT information to address gaps data due to lack of current census and other economic data in the region.
