#23 Mint Julep: Mint Spanking, Lip Rubbing, & Day Drinking

The mint julep is made primarily using  bourbon (or some other spirit), sugar, water, crushed or shaved ice, and fresh mint. As a bourbon-based cocktail, it is associated with the American South and the cuisine of the Southern United States in general, and the Kentucky Derby in particular. Mint Julep Recipe: 1 LARGE MINT SPRIG ½ – ¾ OUNCE SIMPLE SYRUP 2 – 2½ OUNCES BOURBON, PREFERABLY BONDED In a julep tin or rocks glass, muddle mint sprig with simple syrup by gently pressing to release oils. Pack the glass with finely crushed ice. Pour bourbon, and mound more ice into the top of the glass. Spank a mint bouquet by clapping it between your hands to release the oils, and garnish.
