Greg Mitchell joins Sam to discuss his new book, The Beginning or the End: How Hollywood―and America―Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. In 1945, multiple Hollywood studios set out to make films about the advent of the atomic bomb — including one written by Ayn Rand. In this book, Mitchell tells the story of how President Truman and the military successfully pressured Hollywood to drain these films of all critique, revealing how the government molded culture into propaganda in postwar America.
And for members: Sam talks with late journalist Michael Hastings on Stanley McCrystal.
