The April 2026 rescue of a U.S. F-15E officer in Iran involved a 48-hour operation where the airman evaded capture by hiding on a 7,000-foot ridge while CIA deception efforts diverted Iranian forces. A massive Combat Search and Rescue Task Force, including Navy SEALs and Air Force PJs, executed the extraction amid a firefight that resulted in the loss of one A-10 and the destruction of disabled U.S. aircraft at a forward refueling point.
