part 1 of 2 of a reading of chapter 2 of Damian Caluori's book Plotinus on the Soul.
Insofar as the logical structure of the sensible world presupposes both a theoretical and a practical mode of discursive thought, it cannot be accounted for by Intellect alone, which is a mode of thinking (intellection) essentially distinct from discursive thinking. Soul therefore, as discursive thought itself, is postulated by Plotinus as the mediator between Intellect and the sensible world.
