In 2018, when I penned this blog post about trading services, I was an active member of a business networking group named BNI. While BNI provided a valuable experience, it also emerged as a hotspot for individuals keen on bartering services. At times, such trades can indeed be beneficial. However, it's crucial to ensure that the services traded align with genuine needs. For budding web designers eager to secure jobs, the allure of trading for non-essential services can be tempting. From experience, I'd advise against it. Even the few service trades that did work in my favor eventually presented challenges.
Businesses evolve, and their offerings may change over time, leading to potential renegotiations of past trade agreements. I would strongly recommend refraining from service trades most of the time. It's a more transparent approach to simply pay for services and, in turn, be paid for your own. Your accountant will certainly appreciate it.
