As we continue our series, Can We Trust the Bible?, we continue where we left off when we discussed the canonical books of the Bible. This time, we dive into what the Apocrypha is and why the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod doesn't hold the Apocrypha to the same authority as the Bible.

The Bible consists of 66 separate books that most people in the world would consider to make up the entirety of The Bible, but what about the various texts, documents, and other writings written around the same time as the 4 Gospels or the rest of the New Testament? Should those 'books' be in the Bible too? In this episode of 2414, Pastor Dan and Shane will dive into how certain books of the Bible were put in while others were left out.

The road may be winding, but it brings us to where we are today. In today's episode, we hear about the journey, so far, of Adam Schmelling (husband of Brenda Segovia-Schmelling). Adam is an engineer working in the state of Washington whose roots trace back to Wisconsin. Join us as we learn what brought Adam to where he is today and how God built bridges to connect us all together in this story of life.

"The telephone game rules are simple: Gather 3 or more players. The person starting the game thinks of a word or phrase and whispers it into the next player's ear only once, with no repeats allowed. That listener tries to correctly repeat that same word or phrase into the next player's ear." From: empoweredparents.co
The telephone game is often used as a reference when trying to describe how something might lose its credibility over time through many people. For example, someone might claim that the Bible has lost what it's trying to state because it's been copied and retold so many times. In this episode, we dive into how the Bible was transmitted or copied and what elements have been preserved or how some passages might be off from how it was originally written.

As we continue the series, Can We Trust the Bible, in this episode, we discuss the validity of the authors who wrote the books (specifically the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). As a reference to the direction of our conversation, we use Lee Strobel's "Case for Christ" as to how and why the authors of the Gospels might have written the books and whether these books can be trusted or not.

In today's episode of 2414, Pastor Dan and Shane continue the series, Can We Trust the Bible, and continue discussing internal references. These internal references are sections of the New Testament that reference stories of the Old Testament. Later in the episode, we look at how some books of the Bible are credited to be worthy of being in the Bible.

"Why is the Bible true?" "Because the Bible says it is." "But how do we know that's true?" "Because the Bible says it is." These might be conversations you've heard in the past in regard to how people explain that the contents of the Bible are trustworthy. While this explanation of the Bible might be chalked up to the fallacy of "circular reasoning," digging deeper into the contents of the Bible helps us understand how these arguments can be justified... But don't just listen to what we have to say, continue the conversation with someone else about what you think.

Outburst is a game of lists and categories similar to Family Feud. Why are we playing this game in this episode of 2414? Because it's fun, and tabletop games are a great way to experience life together while creating space for conversations and relationships. While Dan and Shane continue to struggle to play games and make up their own rules, we hope you are able to play along at home! Next week, join us as we continue our series, "Can We Trust the Bible?"

When we look into the validity of the Bible, some of the sources that can be used to back its credibility come from writings that were written not long after the emergence of Christianity. In today's episode, Dan and Shane look into specific documents that talk about this emerging fad called Christianity less than one hundred years after Christ.
