However, the initial transfer of wealth is likely to start within the baby boomer generation from husband to the surviving widow. Traditionally non- or low-earning spouses could be able to inherit a fortune, so what do they need to know about finances? Younger, more affluent women are also getting more financially savvy. And, with more women becoming the family breadwinners, all these changes represent a critical inflection point for the financial-services industry.
