A little over 25 years ago Paul Skiba heads out to work with his employee Lorenzo Chivers, bringing his 9 year old daughter along with him. It was Paul's weekend to have his visitation with Sarah and sometimes he brought her to work with him. And she loved to going to work with her Dad. This particular weekend was a tough one for Paul. He had told his long time on/off again girlfriend that this time it was off for good and she had to leave his house by Sunday night before he got home from work.
But, Paul never came home after work that Sunday night and Sarah was never taken back to her mothers house either. Lorenzo never made it back to his either. All 3 were missing. Seemingly they vanished, disappearing without a trace.
If you expected the Police to jump in and help... well... you would definitely be disappointed. The police didn't take any of their disappearances seriously. They assumed that Paul had taken off with Sarah to go "joy riding" and he would bring her back eventually. No mention of where Lorenzo would be. When bullet holes and blood were found on one of the moving trucks and pieces of scalp with hair still attached were found on another of the Moving Trucks, (this one driven by Paul that Sunday) the police were still completely unconcerned. The bullet holes probably happened during a road rage incident. Even though no such incident had been reported and the truck didn't even have an engine. The blood was probably just a cut or a nosebleed. Besides, they were sure that this wasn't even their jurisdiction (it was). So, a lot of valuable time was wasted and vital evidence was compromised or just lost completely. Both men's personal vehicles were missing. Eventually, the evidence was so compelling and there was so much of it, that the Police HAD to get involved. This is just the barely scraping the top of the barrel of everything that went down with the case. A legal battle for Paul's business takes place, a baby that Paul wasn't even sure was his when he disappeared is now involved, the girlfriend he was kicking out comes forward and claims to be his wife all while all 3 of these amazing people are still missing.
Last month was the 25th anniversary of their disappearances. It is still Unsolved and unbelievably cold. Join me for Part 2 of the story of Paul and Sarah Skiba and Lorenzo Chivers.
