Angela Savage was in her mother's womb during the tragic running of the 1973 Indianapolis 500. Her mother watched from the grandstand, in horror, as her husband, racecar driver Swede Savage, crashed in turn four after leading the race. The vicious impact and catastrophic explosion left him with critical injuries that would ultimately claim his life 33 days later. Angel was born just a few weeks after his tragic death. Angela's tumultuous life, as well as the life of her famous father, is chronicled in her book, SAVAGE ANGEL. Angela credits the racing community for saving her life as she began exploring the history of her iconic father that led to finding herself. She is now a special part of the entire racing family and works as a program manager for Racing For Mental Health, a nonprofit organization that promotes mental health awareness and destigmatizes the topic of mental health through conversation, education, advocacy and outreach via the racing community.
