In this episode we introduce Lyndon Johnson, John F. Kennedy's vice-president. We review Johnson's rapid rise in politics, and detail the powerful businessmen and politicians who enabled that rise. We discuss his skill in and methods of conducting politics, including the famous "Johnson treatment". We list his political achievements, primarily as president. We also discuss the significant areas where LBJ diverged from JFK as president, and the role he played in escalating the Vietnam War. We go off topic a bit to discuss the similarities and dissimilarities between current protest movements and protest movements in the 1960s, and consider some reasons for what seems to be our current heightened levels of anger and violence in the area of politics and protest.
Intro Music: 'Destructoid' by MK2. Outro Music: 'Strut Funk' by Dougie Wood.
