Jesus prepares His disciples for life after His departure, promising that the Holy Spirit will remain with them, guide them in truth, and empower them to share the Good News.

Just as Jesus faced rejection and persecution, His followers can expect opposition as they live out and share the Good News.  How should we respond when we face opposition, misunderstanding, or rejection because of our faith? Rather than retaliating or giving up, Jesus calls us to remain faithful to Him and follow His example.

Jesus uses the picture of a vine and its branches to show us what it means to live in relationship with Him. Rather than striving to do more for Jesus, we’re invited to remain in His love, allowing Him to shape us and produce lasting fruit in our lives.

Jesus reminds His disciples that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life—and that knowing Him means knowing the Father. Because of these promises, we can face difficult circumstances with hope while joining Jesus in His work wherever He has placed us. Even in the middle of trouble, we can trust that our future is secure, Jesus is with us, and our lives can be used for His purposes.

In John 13, Jesus shows us that following Him means living differently from the values and systems of the world. As Jesus humbly washes His disciples’ feet, He points us toward the cleansing power of the cross and gives us a model for how to live. Following Jesus means choosing humility, serving others, and growing in meaningful relationship with the people around us.
