Today's episode is a bittersweet reflection on the business lessons Jake learned from his father-in-law, Dennis Sadelson, on the one-year anniversary of his death.

Lesson 1 – Become a Self-Made Master of Sales

  • Dennis built mastery through constant reading, listening, and learning from others in sales, wealth, and business — not formal education.
  • Find mentors and masters in your own areas of growth.

Lesson 2 – Build Relationships

  • Dennis was a connection machine with an extensive network across all areas of life.
  • Remember the law of the gift – your being increases in the measure you give it away.

Lesson 3 – Antennas Up

  • As a chemical salesman, Dennis was always alert to opportunities, even on vacation — talking to hotel housekeepers to gather intel and find new accounts.
  • Stay aware and follow up on every potential lead.

Lesson 4 – Get Sh*t Done

  • Dennis attacked projects with urgency and had zero tolerance for procrastination.
  • Don't discount the power of hard work.

Lesson 5 – Show Up for Family and Friends

  • Dennis prioritized presence with family above all else.
  • Regularly ask yourself "what are you working for?"
