A Moment of Your Time

268 - “The Emptiest Feeling” by Kathleen Beane Claytor

Listen Later

Kathleen Beane Claytor retired from Norfolk Southern Corporation in 2016 after 30 years of service.

Now that she is retired she is able to put more time into the things that are very close to her heart: acting, modeling, writing, speaking, giving back to the community (local and worldwide) and trying to stay fit and eat healthy. Kathleen took acting lessons in Atlanta, Georgia at the Company Acting Studio. She has performed on stage in Roanoke at Showtimers, in Atlanta at the Marietta’s Theater in the Square and the New African Grove Theater. Recent activities include a Brambleton Computer Commercial, a role in a Hollins student film and the role of Delores in Dana Pannell’s Date Night and a role in the feature film My Brother’s Crossing. Kathleen also models with Fashionista Roanoke and has done several fashions shows and a fashion shoot for a magazine.

Kathleen is married to Curtis Claytor, the author of The Ultimate Black History Trivia Book. She has three grown sons and eleven grandchildren. You heard it right, eleven. Kathleen’s loves include our Heavenly Father and Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, her husband, her family, her friends and thy neighbor. Kathleen loves to travel. She has recently travelled to Israel, Australia, Hawaii, Alaska and to Rome on a church mission trip. All before Covid-19, of course. But as soon as it is ok to do so, she will be on the road again and in the skies again, travelling wherever the Lord leads.

A Statement from Kathleen:

"I wrote this poem when I was a teenager in high school. Even when I was young, I felt that it was very important to love yourself and to love and care for others. I recognized that some people were so prideful and behaved as if they did not need other people, that they could do this life alone. They built up a wall around themselves. In actuality, these people most likely crave love, but just did not know how to give it or receive it. So, my poem reflects that we need to knock the walls of pride down and be vulnerable. It can feel risky, but the rewards can be great and change your life. I guess as a teenager, I was a deep thinker."
