This is the third episode of the “Money and Power in Clark County” series, where Karissa and Phillip finally discuss the third candidate who was running against John Blom and Karen Bowerman for Clark County Council District 3, Jesse James. James, even though he ultimately didn’t win, is a shining example of people power versus corporate power because he finished just shy of Bowerman by under 3 percent of the vote while opting for a more ethical campaign donation structure and having less than half of the finances that Bowerman had with the likes of Eric Temple backing her. We also contemplate the uncomfortable unanswered questions of why all the other councilors ultimately signed the settlement with Pioneer Industrial when the county had previously been willing to take on Eric Temple. As always, we finish by discussing the need for expanded engagement in local politics and the reminder that WE CAN WIN if enough of us are willing to put ourselves out there.
