29. This is How You Build a Profitable Music Career with Just 50 Fans, with David M Wilkerson

Listen Later

Ep.029: In this episode, I sit down with Austin-based creator, entrepreneur, and all-around powerhouse David M. Wilkerson to unpack his “Feast or Famine” philosophy and why most musicians are chasing the wrong metrics. From his 50-Fan Model to his hard-earned lessons as both a performer and consultant, David breaks down how artists can build sustainable, profitable careers without chasing virality, or burning out. We dive into the mindset shifts musicians need to escape the “famine” cycle, the spiritual and practical meaning behind the feast mentality, and the balance between creativity, family, and self-worth. This one’s part business class, part therapy session, and all fire.

We Chat About:

  • The “Feast or Famine” mindset and how it shapes a musician’s career
  • His 50-Fan Model and why you don’t need thousands of followers to thrive
  • Turning creativity into financial freedom (without selling out)
  • The role of vulnerability, discipline, and emotional awareness in success
  • Building community and relationships that actually sustain a career
  • His evolution as a musician and the creative direction behind INʄIИ∆
  • Balancing fatherhood, marriage, and entrepreneurship
  • How to redefine abundance and quit living in scarcity

About David M Wilkerson:

David Wilkerson is a multi-faceted creator and entrepreneur based in Austin, TX. He is the founder of Wilkerson Media, a consulting business that helps musicians escape the “famine” cycle and build profitable careers with fewer than 50 fans. He also hosts DemoNation Live, a weekly music review and competition show where independent artists go head-to-head in a gamified “fantasy football for music” format that brings fans and musicians together. On stage, David is known as h3ritic, the bass player, producer, and co-vocalist of the alt-metal/rap-metal band INʄIИ∆, a project that blends nu-metal energy, hip-hop grit, and cyber-punk storytelling into a unique world of sound and lore. Whether he’s guiding artists through his consulting programs, spotlighting underground talent on DemoNation, or pushing boundaries with INʄIИ∆, David is dedicated to one mission: proving that musicians can build reliable, respectable, and profitable careers on their own terms.
