Back in 1967 car and motorcycle customizer and father of Rat Fink, Ed “Big Daddy” Roth invented the first true custom bike magazine genre with Choppers magazine. It offered up crazy wild choppers and even the first David Mann paintings. Hell, no less a kustom kulture icon than Robert Williams worked on the magazine. The original Choppers ran until 1970 and Roth closed the doors, which opened the door to three upstarts who started publishing Easyriders magazine in 1971.

Fast forward to 2018 when former editor of WRENCH magazine Cary Brobeck decided the world needed Choppers to come back. He was right. After getting the approval from one of Ed Roth’s sons,  (Ed died on April Fool’s Day, 2001) including much struggling and many sleepless nights, Cary brought Choppers magazine back to life and included all his friends from Easyriders after that venerable bike rag gave up the ghost.

Nowadays, Choppers magazine still brings you the best custom creations imaginable and is staffed by Cary, former BIKER art director Steve “Beatnik” Werner and hangarounds including former In The Wind editor Kim Peterson, long time photographer and editor of Tattoo magazine Billy Tinney and a ton of other bikers, photographers, and artist.

Russell Mitchell, founder of Exile Cycles, is a British-born custom motorcycle builder with an unconventional path to the top of the chopper world. Trained as a veterinarian in England, he came up through London’s glam-punk scene before building radical custom scooters under the Exile name. After moving to the U.S. in 1991, a customized Harley and magazine exposure led to the founding of Exile Cycles in Southern California in 1995.

Known for its raw, minimalist, industrial style, Exile Cycles helped redefine modern custom motorcycles, breaking away from chrome-heavy trends. Through iconic builds, Biker Build Off, and Build or Bust, Russell Mitchell became one of the most influential figures in custom bike culture.

We got to sit down with Chauncey Leopardi aka "Squints" from Sandlot and numerous other film and television roles over the years.

We crossed paths a few years back when he picked up some parts for his Street Glide build and now we finally get to sit down and chop it up to talk bikes, life, family, and business!

While he has a passion for his role as Squints and occasionally acts or appears at events related to the movie, he has largely stepped away from Hollywood to focus on his family and a new passion and career in the cannabis industry.

After a pause for a few years the Love Ride returns in 2025 with renewed energy and focus for the 34th installment. The good times will roll from the historic ride starting location of Harley-Davidson of Glendale to Castaic Lake, CA. Love Ride 34 powered by Harley-Davidson brings back the legacy, the excitement, and the purpose—riding to support our troops, first responders and kids!

The Love Ride Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Oliver Shokouh. Its purpose is to raise funds to support organizations improving lives through health, education, and other forms of support. Over the years, the Foundation has proudly partnered with groups including Autism Speaks, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, MDA, Wounded Warrior Project, and more.
