From My Heart To Yours

#3 Find What Matters with Kon Apostolopoulos

Listen Later

Kon Apostolopoulos: “Priority–in its roots–is a singular term. My grandfather used to say, ‘You cannot hold two melons under the same armpit, my grandson’. That's an important metaphor to understand. There's only room for one priority in your life, because it’s your guiding light.

There's a lot of things that matter, but what matters most?

What is your non-negotiable? Is it your well being? Is it your family? Is it your beliefs? Whatever it is–whatever that non-negotiable is–everything else is secondary.

When you are forced to choose–that's where you truly get to the heart of what matters in your life. There's a visceral response when somebody is behaving in a certain way that breaks that value. As that happens, you really get to the heart of what matters.

My environment is a product of my decisions, my choices, and my actions. Everything around me reflects that back to me. I have the ability to shape my environment.

Taking ownership of what is important requires self-reflection. Build the life that matters to you, build it around the thing that matters most, and make it work for you. That's when you're going to be happy.

Show people how much you care, how much you really love them, and how much they mean to you. That's an important part of connecting with others. We all have that need to connect. We are tribal creatures. We want to belong and it's important to be able to share that love.”
