We're joined by comedian, television writer, and podcast producer Tim Barnes for an in-depth conversation about building a career across stand-up comedy, late night television, animation, and podcasting.
Tim is the creator of the Comedy Central animated web series Maurice on Mars, the scripted audio series Judge Travis, and the founder of the comedy publication Letters From African America. He has also written for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the revival of All That, Warped!, and the NPR quiz show Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!.
In addition to hosting the You Are The Genre podcast, Tim has developed and produced major shows including Science Solved It for VICE Media, Politically Re-Active for First Look Media, and the Kondabolu Brothers Podcast for Earwolf.
We discuss breaking into comedy writing, navigating writers' rooms, building original projects, podcast production at a high level, and how stand-up comedy helped shape his voice as a creator. If you're interested in comedy, media, or carving your own creative lane, this episode is packed with insight.
