Introducing the World’s Toughest Mudder 2018 running interview with Charles Boher.
Today I am having the pleasure to run and talk to Charlie Boher, who won a Tough Mudder event and completed marathons in most major countries, including one over the Great Wall of China as part of his training runs. This run is all about mental strength. Winning one Tough Mudder is an achievement, winning the Holy Grail of all Tough Mudder’s is something to wrap your head around.
He holds the title and record for the most competitive miles ran over the ‘Tough Mudder World Series’ which translates into 400 miles over a single running season. He is also the ONLY person to have run every 8 hours ‘Toughest Mudder AND the 24-hour World’s Toughest Mudder race in 2018.
And yet, he started his career travelling the world as a pro polo player. He is an architect by trade and has his own company in Midhurst, UK.
So how did he get the flavor for running? Well, it all started when he landed an unexpected and last’ minute spot in the London Marathon, which he ran with no prior training.
I am competitive but I have zero on Charlie.
After completing the Marathon, he wanted a tougher challenge, that’s when he signed up World’s Toughest Mudder back when it was still held in Las Vegas.
You have to hand it to the man; I know many who would have pulled out of the London Marathon as well as the Tough Mudder if they’d be faced with the same circumstances, Charlie takes all of it in his own stride. I suspect that makes him a good architect too. Think of something big and he’ll make it.
After completing World’s Toughest Mudder, he decided to take on the challenge of hunting down the elusive Holy Grail prize.
To win the Holy Grail, Charlie had to conquer as many Tough Mudder races as he could in 2018, completing in
- 7 Toughest courses,
- 15 Tougher courses
and of course
- 1 World’s Toughest Mudder
Like all runners I know, Charlie is managing to fit training and travelling into his busy schedule of being a full time Architect.
With all of that in mind one should think the price the Tough Mudder team set out for the winner of most miles run (£10,000), would be given to him. Listen from 00:13:02 in the video.
Today’s 3 mile run is his first race after the last Tough Mudder in Atlanta 2018, and he has a cold, but compared to me, you barely hear him breath.
Charlie is a Brand Ambassador for IGO Adventures that being said, he is running in Inov8 graphene shoes. He says – off camera – “they work for every type of trail run and race I do.
Fun Factor: We are running with Charlie’s dog, Badger and both nearly trip over him. See if you can spot it
