(#3) Not all writers are drunks w/ Dan Ritschel, fantasy writer

This week I sit down with Dan Ritschel (aka Daniel Ratchett), IT guy turned fantasy writer finishing his first novel in an emerging genre called "Lit RPG". Fun fact: Dan is my partner of 7 years and chose to quit drinking shortly after I entered recovery! 

In this episode we discuss:

  • How he didn't really drink until he met me and moved to Chicago. (Oops.) 
  • How he never believed the old trope about writers: that you need to be drinking/a drunk to be creative (think Hemingway).  
  • His experience as an epileptic who wasn't supposed to be drinking alcohol and how booze flared up his seizures AND made his creativity plummet
  • Now 100% alcohol free, we discuss his point of view on "wellness as hedonism" - something that really helped me reframe sobriety as a pleasurable choice as we navigated this new world of living alcohol free, together as polyamorous partners.
