Missing Mei is no stranger to sobriety, but this time after relapsing after several years of continuous sobriety, it's different. It's personal. As a DJ she realized this time she needed to create space for other sober creatives to unite around their shared love of creativity & art while maintaining and celebrating a sober lifestyle & recovery: that's when The Creative Sober, a virtual community organization, was born.

This week I sit down with Leo Carreon, a personal trainer & small group fitness coach based in Chicago. Leo's wellness journey began several years ago when he realized he needed to lose over 200lbs if he was going to live his "best life". He lost the weight and gained some major self-esteem in the process by eating his veggies and focusing on small, yet mighty healthy choices every day. We talk about his journey towards sobriety and how he decided as a coach to be the best example he could be to his clients by putting down the bottle and how by quitting drinking he knew he'd be better able to manage his anxiety and depression. We discuss removing stigma from the business world by actually opening up and sharing with his audience his personal mental health struggles and how that's paved the way to new business opportunities.

This week I spoke to my friend Emily Morris, licensed therapist and clairvoyant energy healer. She shares how she recovered from substance use disorder with alcohol and her journey to starting her own therapy private practice. She talks about how the best thing about being a sober entrepreneur is the ability to own her own time - and that it's also been one of the more challenging aspects of it. She dishes some sage wisdom about how you don't owe everyone your full story - if you're newly sober or have been sober for years: it's up to you how you share your truth.

This week's interview is with my multi-hyphenate, brilliant friend Dannie Lynn Fountain. I’ve been fortunate to know Dannie for a while now as a friend and peer in the tech industry. She’s an entrepreneur with a successful marketing business, has written four books (and is writing another!), and currently works at Google. Oh, and did I mentioned she's now debt free after paying off six figures in debt?!
In this episode we discuss her journey as an entrepreneur and how she arrived at sobriety (psst... she’s not in recovery), and dish (and I mean DISH) about booze and bro culture in tech. We stray a little off the beaten path and talk about sober dating during a pandemic (spoiler: we’re both polyamorous and queer so this isn’t your typical dating story).
Questions answered:
How did you become sober and an entrepreneur? What's your experience with boozy tech culture? What's it like to be sober and an entrepreneur? What's your experience dating sober during a pandemic?

On this FIRST dynamic, inaugural PowerBabe podcast, host Phoebe Conybeare talks with Chris Marshall about his evolution from struggling through college and working at Subway as a drinker… to getting sober and building Sans Bar, the first sober bar in Austin, Texas.
We talk about what it’s like for Chris to be a neurodivergent, sober entrepreneur with a unique perspective on how to solve BIG problems: like how human connection helps battle addiction and promote long term recovery.
Chris talks about the struggles of building something everyone around him thought was a huge risk and his journey to an incredible ah-ha moment when on a cross-country flight, he opened an in-flight magazine and saw himself featured in an article, talking about the success of his vision.
However, with the pandemic, Chris has had to pivot from creating an in-person event space/sober bar to rethinking how we EVOLVE as humans connecting through technology, not in spite of it.
