In this episode, we focus on trauma, including definitions, how it effects us, and how it effects our brain & levels of stress. We talked about how to "ground" using your senses (what you see, taste, smell, touch, hear), and how paying attention to 3 or more of your sense can help anxiety symptoms. Neuroscience is proving now what Jesus told us: Prayer brings us healing. We reviewed PTSD (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder) vs. how we respond to traumatic events in a normal way. Trauma symptoms are connected to memory, and how our brain helps us to make sense of memories. Parts of the brain tied to trauma: amygdala and hippocampus, inside of the limbic system of the brain. As we pray and meditate on scripture, we can change how our brain responds to past trauma, & reduce our stress hormones that flood our body (cortisol & adrenaline). Brandon talked about how the bible is FULL of trauma & people who experienced traumatic events. Cain & Abel, war, rape, Paul seeing many people murdered. Jesus experienced His own trauma, stress, & redemption. The Parable of the Two Sons (or the Prodigal Son), which points to us using moralism or hedonism to deal with difficult things in our lives.
