Textiles are a part of home design that can often be overlooked but are incredibly important. There isn’t a simpler way to establish your design style in your home than with textiles. As you’ll learn (or may already know), textiles are simply fabrics in your home - pillows, window treatments, bedding, etc. On today’s episode, we’ll hit the basics of using textiles in your home and give a couple tips and tricks to help you use them effectively.

Definition of Textile: A type of cloth or woven fabric

A common mistake to avoid: hanging curtains too low and too close together. Hang your window treatments HIGH and WIDE. 

 

The ideal width for curtains is 2-2.5x the width of your windows

A common mistake to avoid: pillows made to match your sofa. 

 

13:21 - Tips for mixing patterns with pillows. Pillows generally fall into 4 categories: organic, geometric, textured, solid. You don’t want two of the same type in a single place. If you are going to do two in the same category, you want them to be different scales.

A common mistake to avoid: not layering.

 

19:28 - Standard bedding setup. Duvet and cover, full-sized bed blanket, regular shams,  euro shams, and a decorative bolster or lumbar pillow. On a queen-size bed, you want 2-3 euro shams, whereas on a king-size bed you want 3-4
