If you’ve followed us for long, you’ve probably seen us post about the travel posters we collect depicting places we’ve been. Just a few weeks ago, we wrote on the blog about how we find inspiration for our home in our travels. The vast majority of our travel prints come from a local Nashville business that we love - Anderson Design Group. They have been designing art in Nashville since 1993, as founder Joel Anderson recounts in our discussion. They are a family business, local to Nashville, and have a team mentality. With over 1800 posters, calendars, books, postcards, and more, Anderson Design Group truly makes beautiful art, and we loved having a conversation with them about their business!

This is the final installment of our Design Basics Series, and it’s one of our favorite topics - ART! We love art and have collected some vintage art over the years that we absolutely love. Chandler says it in the episode, but art really is one of the easiest ways to express who you are and who your family is in your home. And in conjunction with this episode, we have some exciting news - we are launching an online store! We hope to add products over time, but we are starting with, you guessed it, art! Specifically, digital art prints. We are offering six beautiful vintage digital art prints to begin with that we are so excited about. Be sure to check them out at The Peach and Pine Collection.

13:42 - How close to hang things together. 4-6” from the bottom of the piece of furniture
15:23 - If you’re trying to find a really large piece of art to hang above furniture, typically you want the art to be at least 2/3rds the width of the furniture piece.
17:50 - If you’re hanging art that isn’t connected to a piece of furniture, you want the art centered around eye level (specifically 57” - 60” off the floor)
19:23 - Try not to have the top of any art piece above the window or door trim in the room.
22:35 - Where to find art

Today we’re talking about something that most anyone who is into interior design loves to talk about - accessories! Accessories are a big part of what makes YOUR home feel like YOUR style. Whether that’s books, containers, art, greenery, or fun decorative objects, accessories make a huge statement in your home. As usual, Chandler shares a few of her “rules of thumb” about accessories on this week’s episode.
Timestamps01:45 - Dad Joke of the Week
03:06 - Introducing Accessories - “decorative or functional items that add the finishing touches to a chosen home’s style.”
5 categories of accessories we always keep around for styling a home.
05:39 - Books - take the book jackets off and you’ll find that many books are BEAUTIFUL to display as an accessory.
08:04 - Containers - vases, boxes, jugs, etc.
10:47 - Art
One of my favorite uses of art - having a small art piece that leans up against the all on the shelf. It doesn’t have to be framed, just lean it up to take up some height and give visual interests.12:02 - Greenery and Botanicals
Check out our favorite faux plants that look real13:33 - Fun Decorative Objects
20:12 - Shelf Styling Freebie
Textiles are a part of home design that can often be overlooked but are incredibly important. There isn’t a simpler way to establish your design style in your home than with textiles. As you’ll learn (or may already know), textiles are simply fabrics in your home - pillows, window treatments, bedding, etc. On today’s episode, we’ll hit the basics of using textiles in your home and give a couple tips and tricks to help you use them effectively.
Timestamps04:38 - Dad Joke of the Week
05:14 - Introduction to Textiles.
Definition of Textile: A type of cloth or woven fabric
07:46 - Window Treatments
A common mistake to avoid: hanging curtains too low and too close together. Hang your window treatments HIGH and WIDE.
The ideal width for curtains is 2-2.5x the width of your windows
12:11 - Pillows
A common mistake to avoid: pillows made to match your sofa.
13:21 - Tips for mixing patterns with pillows. Pillows generally fall into 4 categories: organic, geometric, textured, solid. You don’t want two of the same type in a single place. If you are going to do two in the same category, you want them to be different scales.
17:49 - Bedding
A common mistake to avoid: not layering.
19:28 - Standard bedding setup. Duvet and cover, full-sized bed blanket, regular shams, euro shams, and a decorative bolster or lumbar pillow. On a queen-size bed, you want 2-3 euro shams, whereas on a king-size bed you want 3-4
23:10 - Rugs
A common mistake to avoid: getting a rug that is too small.
This is the third episode in our Design Basics Series, and today we are talking about furniture! Like most people, we had a shoestring budget when we were just out of college and freshly married. We bought plenty of furniture that was function over form and super cheap, but we found that those things really aren’t built to last. As we’ve grown our business and worked with talented carpenters/woodworkers like Kyle Levy of Broken Compass Woodworking (remember episode 8?), our appreciation for the fine craftsmanship of quality furniture has really grown. There is a time and a place for places to invest in quality and places where you might not want to. It’s important to think of your furniture as an investment rather than just an expense. We hope that this episode helps you think through your own home and how you can best invest in pieces that will last.
Timestamps02:52 - Dad Joke of the Week

06:42 - Good, Fast Cheap - Everybody wants all three, but you can usually only pick two when it comes to furniture.
8:40 - A couple of things that shifted our perspective on the value of quality furniture.

(2) Going to High Point Market
“If you get a good piece of quality furniture, it can truly last a lifetime.”
12:51 - There is a time and a place for places to invest in quality and places where you might not want to. It’s important to think of your furniture as an investment rather than just an expense.
14:45 - 8 questions we recommend you ask yourself when you’re buying new furniture.
15:00 - How long do you want to keep this?
15:35 - Where is it made?
16:28 - How is it made?
17:28 - What are the materials used to build?
You really just need to do your research so you know what you’re getting when you’re purchasing furniture - especially with the materials.
21:32 - How is the customer service of the company?
Quality customer service generally indicates quality products.
24:00 - Will it fit correctly into my space?

This is the second episode of our Design Basics Series where we are talking about the basics of designing your home. Last week we tackled lighting. This week we are tackling picking paint colors and how to pick paint colors! There’s a lot that goes into picking paint colors for your home, and we’ve done our best to compile a list of Do’s and Don’ts for you to think about while thinking through paint colors.
Thursday, May 7 - LIVE Q&AAs part of the design basics series, we’ll also be doing a LIVE episode that is a Q&A where we get to answer YOUR questions about design basics. This is happening on Thursday, May 7 at 7:30pm Central Time. You’ll be able to find it on our Facebook page or on IG Live. 4:15 - Dad Joke of the week
06:08 - Today we are talking about one of the questions we get asked most frequently - how to pick paint colors for your home.
The DON’Ts and DOs of paint colors
7:22 - DON’T pick a paint color solely off what you see online, but DO use online inspiration as a starting point to make a list of options.
11:10 - DON’T only look at the main concentrated color within a color, but DO consider the undertones in a color.
The best way to tell undertones is to compare to the most purest of that color
16:53 - DON’T look at paint colors in isolation, but DO consider the color wheel.
It’s important to test the colors in your house because there are factors that affect how the color looks in your home.
22:51 - DON’T automatically go for the most concentrated version of that color, but DO consider a more muted version of that color.
24:57 - DON’T ignore your trim color, but DO consider repainting your trim if necessary
25:36 - DON’T start painting just because you like the swatch, but DO paint a swatch on every wall you plan to paint so you see how it reacts in different times of day, weather, lighting, etc.
27:07 - DON’T feel restricted to only a certain brand or concentration of your color, but DO know what options you have.
31:06 - DON’T paint a different color in every room of your house, but DO create some consistency and flow throughout your home.
32:22 - DON’T think that a paint color will save you from a really dark room, but DO consider your lighting and listen to last week’s episode.
35:19 - Things We’re Loving
This is the first episode of our Design Basics Series where we are hitting the basics of designing your home. In this series we will talk about paint colors, picking furniture and layouts, textiles, art, and accessories, but our first episode of the series is on lighting. Lighting makes a huge difference in your home, but not everyone knows how large an impact simple lighting changes can make. As you’ll hear, the key to lighting is layering, and there are a lot of different ways to layer the lighting in your home.
The internet is full of beautifully-styled interiors and dreamy looking homes for us to be inspired by. We love these and try to add to the internet’s arsenal of beautiful spaces ourselves on a regular basis! In this week’s episode, Chandler and Jeremy challenge you to go beyond looking solely online and encourage you to find inspiration from your passions and interests.

13:12 - Whenever we are in the planning and dreaming phase of a renovation or decorating project, we don’t start with other people’s designs to gain inspiration. We want to use our individual creativity while we are dreaming to come up with something beautiful and not copy other people’s work.
15:23 - Jenny Komenda is a great follow for inspiring design
“We all walk around with trend-blinders on.” - Jenny Komenda

19:04 - Summed up:
Don’t limit your inspiration to only looking at other people’s pictures.

Instagram - save to folders
Pinterest - production search within an image
20:05 - Follow more than just design blogs for inspiration - nature, artists, travel bloggers, etc. are all great places to get inspiration.
22:41 - Physical design books and design coffee table books are great places to find inspiration. Some of our favorites are:
- Old Home Love
- Homebody
- Travel Home
24:20 - Another place we look for inspiration is “old stuff.” Family heirlooms, things from antique stores, things that have a past and a history.
25:24 - We find inspiration by the things we love to do in our homes.
“The ways we use the spaces influence the design.”
28:18 - Things We’re Loving

We are ALL spending a lot more time at home these days. If you’re anything like us, you’re wanting to get some projects done around the house while still abiding by state-mandated stay-at-home orders. This week’s episode is all about simple projects that you can do while you’re stuck at home over the next few weeks. They are simple, inexpensive, and great things to take care of now so that you can take care of more complex projects once the world is a little more back to “normal.” We hope you enjoy these ideas!
