3/1 Florida Weather 6 PM: Severe Thunderstorm Warning

Listen Later

Good evening. Florida. I'm Aaron Jolly.
So Florida decided to kick off March with some drama. A cold front stalled over South Florida today and squeezed out thunderstorms that dropped pea sized hail from Homestead to Miami Beach. Hail. In March. That front is losing steam now, sliding south and fading out.
In the next 24 hours. Down in South Florida, you're still at 79 degrees with showers lingering through early evening. A quarter to half inch of rain where those storms rumbled through. Things quiet down by 10 P.M. and overnight lows settle near 71 degrees. Warm and muggy. Classic.
Slide over to Tampa Bay and it's a completely different vibe. 80 degrees, sunny skies, not a storm in sight. Tonight eases to 61 degrees with a few clouds drifting in. Nice evening to sit on the porch.
Up in Central Florida, you caught a break too. Mostly sunny, 76 degrees. Tonight drops to a refreshing 58 degrees. That's open the windows weather. North Florida wins the day though. Pure sunshine, 71 degrees, cooling to 52 tonight. Crisp enough to grab a light jacket.
Now here's where it gets interesting. High pressure muscles in tomorrow, flipping the winds to the northeast. Most of the state stays dry with highs in the mid to upper 70s. South Florida sees a few morning coastal showers, then clearing by afternoon near 78 degrees.
The real story is what builds from there. That high pressure locks in easterly winds all week, pumping Gulf moisture inland. Afternoon pop up showers become a daily habit, especially over the interior. Temperatures climb fast. Mid 80s by Wednesday. Flirting with 90 degrees inland by Friday. and the beaches? Dangerous rip currents develop by Tuesday with seas building to 5 to 8 feet. Stay out of the surf.
Charge your phone and keep the umbrella in the car this week. You'll need both.
