#313 Part 2: To Tithe or NOT to Tithe? What does the bible say about tithing and giving?

Listen Later

After laying the Biblical context of tithing and giving in Part 1, Kim addresses the law of tithing in episode 313. All are encouraged to listen to Part 1 and how Jesus, the "new covenant", changed the order of worship and sacrifice from external to internal (matter of the heart).

Most proponents of tithing use Abraham and his example when he tithed one-tenth to Melchizedek. However, it's important to understand covenants as it relates to Abraham and his tithing to Melchizedek. Why? Because covenants help us to know and understand the context of "where to put things" or like things with other like things.

As it relates to tithing, Kim's teaching focuses on the covenant God made with Abraham. The Abrahamic covenant was a unilateral covenant where God chose a specific people

for Himself. The sign of that covenant was circumcision, or the "carving or cutting" out of a people as a great nation: first the Jews then the Gentiles.

When Abraham tithed to Melchizedek, Kim is of the opinion that God was NOT laying out the justification of tithing for the Gentiles, nor was He endorsing the continuance of tithing for the Levites since there was no temple for the Levitical priests to maintain.

"In speaking of 'new covenant,' he has made the

first one obsolete. And what is obsolete and growing old will soon disappear." Heb 8:13

Jesus is the new covenant between God and ALL mankind. Under the new covenant, the temple of God

is no longer a building or place of worship made by hand (external). As Jesus fulfilled the old covenant through His death and resurrection, we, as born-again believers are the temple of God (internal). YOU ARE THE TEMPLE OF GOD!

So, what does this mean today as it relates to tithing for pastors and those serving the Lord? Stay tuned to next week as Kim addresses the law of giving and what God does require of us who believe.
