Dr. Celeste Chamberlain served as a Tech Policy Advisor for the US Senate (HSGAC), is a Cybersecurity Professional, and the Founder/Executive Director of 3.14 Academy. 3.14 Academy is a nonprofit focused on providing support to the Autism community.
She is also a certified autism specialist and mother of two kids on the spectrum. Her Ph.D. in Emergency Management from Jacksonville State University gives her a unique insight for creating law enforcement training for officers engaging with people on the spectrum. As a university professor at the University of Maryland, Dr. Chamberlain has created hundreds of hours of curriculum for adult learners and uses that experience to create high-quality autism training for 3.14 Academy.
In this interview, we talk about the two areas 3.14 Academy focuses on - parent and law-enforcement education. Both of Celeste's sons are on the Spectrum, her youngest is nonverbal and more significantly impacted by his disabilities. Celeste is very open about her concerns, stating her sons are a "triple threat" - they are Black, male, and have a disability.
3.14 Academy offers training series set up like college courses. The 100 series introduces you to concepts and terms. By the time you get to the 400 series, you are ready for the much more in-depth overviews provided.
Although I think the courses are a steal at $30 each with unlimited access, Celeste's vision is to provide them at no cost. This will require much more community support. As a nonprofit, she relies on the generosity of her donors to fund her programs, making them even more accessible.
