Why do Black firsts not include Biracial firsts? Our history goes back further than we think.

In today’s climate, with the explosive growth of biracial and multiracial people, it is important to accurately tell history. The three Black firsts you may have or have not heard, Alexander Twilight, Nicolas Galbaldan, and Ophelia Devore-Mitchell were instrumental in elevating the Black race, although they were mixed race. Alexander was the first Black higher degree holder in the United States. Nicolas, a phenomenal surfer that is considered one of its giants, despite his early death. And Ophelia, who opened the first black modeling agency that started Cicely Tyson’s and Diahann Carroll’s careers, amongst other accomplishments.
