Good morning. Iowa. I'm Aaron Jolly.
That gray ceiling overhead? It’s not moving. A massive deck of low clouds surged north from Missouri and Kansas overnight. and now it's parked directly over Iowa. High pressure over Minnesota is trying to feed us some dry air, but frankly, it’s losing the battle.
In the next 24 hours. You'll step out to 31 degrees under heavy overcast skies. and don't expect a dramatic warm-up. Southeast winds at 5 to 10 miles an hour are dragging in that moisture, keeping things damp and raw.
Central Iowa climbs to 44 degrees today, but you won't see much sun. Drizzle develops after 11 P.M. As temperatures hold near 36. Eastern Iowa catches a few early breaks, but clouds thicken fast. You hit 43 before rain chances increase after midnight with a low of 33.
Western Iowa stays stuck in the clouds with a high of 43. Watch for drizzle late tonight as temperatures dip to 32 degrees. That could put a light glaze on surfaces by morning, so take it slow on the roads. Down in the Quad Cities, you'll see 44 degrees with a few early sun breaks. Rain likely moves in after 1 A.M. With a low of 35.
Looking ahead. Tuesday stays drizzly and raw. but then, things get interesting. By Thursday, western Iowa hits 67 degrees. Friday could reach 69 in the Quad Cities with thunderstorms in the mix. That's nearly 29 degrees above normal. We're gaining almost three minutes of daylight every day now. and spring is definitely waking up.
