Good evening. Iowa. I'm Aaron Jolly.
That gray blanket outside your window? It's not going anywhere fast. We're sitting at 40 degrees under stubborn overcast skies, but the real trouble tonight is what you can't see. Fog is quietly settling in across the state.
In the next 24 hours. Northern and eastern Iowa, take note. A Dense Fog Advisory kicks in at 10 P.M. For areas like Decorah and Charles City. Visibility could drop to a quarter mile or less. If you're driving late, you'll want to stick to those low beams.
Central Iowa holds onto mostly cloudy skies tonight with a low around 36 degrees. You might catch a little drizzle toward morning. Wednesday starts with patchy fog before climbing to a high near 50.
Eastern Iowa dips to 31 degrees overnight. Watch out — that's cold enough for any fog to create icy spots on untreated roads. The mist rolls in after 1 A.M. and lingers through mid-morning. Wednesday rebounds to 50.
Western Iowa sees the clearest break. Mostly cloudy tonight with a low of 32, then partly sunny skies by Wednesday morning. You'll hit 55 degrees — the warmest spot in the state.
The Quad Cities sit at 34 degrees overnight with rain picking up by morning. Wednesday stays cooler there, topping out near 51.
Looking ahead, we're in for a wild ride. Thursday jumps into the low 60s. Friday? We're nearing 70 degrees with thunderstorms. Some could be severe, with large hail possible — nearly 29 degrees above normal for early March.
The weekend clears out beautifully. Saturday and Sunday look sunny with highs in the mid-50s to mid-60s. Monday pushes right back toward 70.
Full moon tonight, by the way. If the fog lifts long enough, it'll be worth a look. Sunrise is at 6:47, sunset at 6:08 — we're gaining almost three minutes of daylight every day now.
Charge your phone before bed tonight. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves.
Take care
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
