3/3 Florida Weather Noon: Record Cold

Listen Later

Good afternoon. Florida. I'm Aaron Jolly.
So picture this. A big high pressure system parked off New England is shoving cool air down the coast like a bouncer clearing a hallway. That's why North Florida woke up socked in fog this morning while the rest of the state is soaking up sunshine. Two completely different vibes separated by about 200 miles of I-75.
In the next 24 hours. Up north, that dense fog hangs around through midday along the coast. Highs only reach 73 degrees with northeast winds gusting to 24 miles an hour. That wind has some teeth to it. Tonight the fog creeps inland and lows settle near 59.
Now slide down to Central Florida. This is the winner today. Mostly sunny, high near 80 degrees. Just a whisper of a shower chance this afternoon. Lows tonight ease to 64. Pretty close to perfect.
Tampa Bay, your patchy fog burns off by 10 A.M. and then it's full sunshine all the way to 84 degrees. That's the kind of afternoon where your car steering wheel reminds you summer's not far off. Tonight, partly cloudy, low around 65.
South Florida, mostly sunny with a high of 78. A quick shower could pop near midday. East winds stay breezy, gusting to 20 miles an hour. Lows hold at a balmy 73.
Quick safety note. Atlantic beaches from Palm Beach south have dangerous rip currents through Wednesday. Swim near a lifeguard. No exceptions.
Looking ahead, things get spicy. A warming trend builds through the week with record highs possible by Thursday. We're talking mid to upper 80s inland. Moisture creeps in midweek bringing better shower chances. And tonight. Step outside after dark. Full moon, mainly clear skies across most of the state. Your phone camera won't do it justice, but try anyway.
I'll be tracking those potential records all week. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
