In 2001, Athanasia Houvarda was happily married and had her own business. One hot summers day in Greece, whilst on the way to the beach, she lost it all in a horrific car accident. Athanasia lost friends, her relationship and suffered burns to 74% of her body.  After a transfer to the UK for better quality care, two long months in ICU and enduring countless surgeries, she beats the odds and went from “burns victim” to “burns survivor”.

After a difficult divorce, rehabilitation and subsequent cancer diagnosis, which she also won, Athanasia is now a celebrated artist, living in Canada with her new husband, who is also a burns survivor.
