It’s Casual Friday! Sam and Emma speak with Jeet Heer, national affairs correspondent for The Nation, to round up yet another crazy week in news. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on the FLOP that was Night 3 of the RNC, Biden’s candidacy, the ICJ’s stunning advisory opinion on Israel, spreading Polio in Gaza, presidential polling, Delta unions, the DNC, Biden’s student debt plans, Israel’s offensives, the major Windows outage, and the UK’s crackdown on peaceful protest, before highlighting the speech that easily won the most emotional reaction from Donald Trump throughout the entire RNC, Hulk Hogan’s. Jeet Heer then dives right into the wild Newsweek that saw a literal presidential assassination get somewhat overshadowed, first unpacking the RNC’s focus on the celebration of one man (Donald Trump), before shifting to Trump’s VP pick of J.D. Vance, and his backing of the biggest threats to democracy in Big Tech’s billionaires. Heer, Sam, and Emma then walk through the myriad major developments in Biden’s 2024 candidacy that occurred this week, and have an extensive conversation on Biden’s evident resentment of the establishment and the role of AOC and progressives in backing him, before wrapping up the interview by assessing the Kamala Harris of it all, from her likelihood to win the Presidency to the possibility of her losing the nomination.

And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma unpack Trump’s cold shoulder to Tiffany, with a stark side-by-side with his passionate kiss blown to Hulk Hogan, cringe in the power of Van Jones’ nonstop lauding of the GOP’s momentum, and ponder the dangers of an open convention (and AOC’s recent IG Story session) with Chris from Philly.
