In today's teaching, Kim expands upon episode #347 and dives deeper into what God is urging His people to do in this new season. That is, God wants us to "Come In" to His rest. It would be a benefit to review episode 347 for more context.
The Bible tells us that God had "invited" the His people and the Church to enter God's. Actually, it was more than an invitation; it was also the fourth commandment given to Moses to rest on the Sabbath.
Paul reminds us in Heb 4:1-11 of the promise of entering God's rest and the dangers to those who do not because of unbelief.
Here is what Paul was saying. Rest is a promise from God. Secondly, this rest is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and many did not believe because their hearts were hardened AND they did not know God's ways. It's one thing to know God's will and another to know His Word. We must become acquainted with God's ways. To accept the promise of rest, STOP DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND REST.
Lastly, we must strive, we must "labor" to enter His rest. Huh? While is sounds contradictory to labor for rest, how many people today have to make an effort to sit still, to stop working, ministering, or whatever it is that consumes your time.
The people of God suffered when they failed to enter His rest. However, God did not introduce rest when He chose His people. It was ordained for all humanity. Consider Genesis 2 and the creation of all things. God ended His work. He rested. God declared a day to be set apart, and He blessed the day to be holy.
Consider Gen 6 and the great flood. In that time, the world was a lawless, corrupt place. God gave warning to the few just people, namely Noah and his family, that God was going to destroy all flesh on the earth. Did you know that Noah's name actually means rest?
Let's connect the dots from last week through Noah. God warned Noah to come out, to be preserved from the impending flood, and to come into a place of God's rest (the arc). Once again, through these scriptures is God revealing His way… of what He is calling us to do today? Is Noah the picture that God is revealing to His people to come out and come into His Rest?
What did this rest look like for Noah and how can we relate it to our lives?
Key takeaways:
The arc was a place of protection, provision, and for preservation. The people and things in the arc mattered. Today, this our home, our marriage and our family. Noah showed us what it looked like to come out from the world by building a place of refuge without being caught up in the allure of the world. Noah was willing to look and live differently; he was mostly likely considered an outcast. Lastly, God forewarned Noah about the earth's destruction and told him the way to prepare for it.
Why does all this matter now? Jesus tells us directly in Matt 24:36-44 about the coming of the Son of Man. Does today's world bear a striking resemblance of the days since before the flood? Has the Church been immune? Two people can be doing the same thing in their love and worship for God. But if you don't separate yourself, return to God and enter His rest, will you be the one taken or the one left?
God is calling us to enter His rest, back home to our marriage and our families.
