Parents of the Year

35. Can we put restrictions on things our kids buy with their own money?

Listen Later

Our job as parents is to protect our children as well as help guide their behaviours so they can be independent, successful adults. On the one hand, setting limits is so important to keep our kids safe, guide their behaviour, and teach self-discipline.

On the other hand, restrictions could inhibit the things we want our kids to learn like taking responsibility, being accountable, and making smart choices.

Today Andrew and Caroline tackle this tricky subject.

If we put restrictions on things then we must consider things like, what are we doing to help our kids learn responsibility? To make good choices? To manage their behaviours?
