Welcome to the Heartbeat, where today the big conversation is around shame, with Milli Fox. We dive into why it's important to let it out and talk about it (recognizing the shadows and feeling the emotions), and how it doesn't actually help with changing behavior in the long run.
Lots of awesome info, as usual, and here are some highlights!
"It's just this balance between embracing who you are, accepting who you are, and not shaming yourself for those - maybe negative qualities, or things that you haven't quite worked on yet - to where you're happy with the way you react in certain situations. This whole 'self improvement' and 'personal development' sphere, it can be a very exhausting journey to go on and to commit to, right? When all you're doing is, you feel like you're monitoring yourself, cause you're trying to be intentional, you're trying to really live with mindfulness, but it can also feel like you're under a microscope. And it's trying to find that balance between giving yourself enough compassion and still being able to work through that shame and shadow, without denying that it exists, and just glossing over and doing the whole -- for many years I did the whole 'spiritual bypassing' thing."
"Guilt is, 'I did something wrong', shame is, 'I am something wrong.'"
"Bring it into the light, because shame can only live in silence, and in darkness, so you have to speak it out loud and share it."
"Perfectionism is born around shame."
