Are you governing, or are you being governed?
Today's episode delivers a timely message to the Body of Christ. The time is NOW to take back your personal sovereignty. It's not only important but necessary in such a time as this. Let's begin to lay the foundation for understanding sovereignty and its importance to govern our personal lives.
Consider this. In what area of your life does God want you to grow your ability to govern and manage? What is needed to accomplish this? Can you produce the receipts (the fruit) from your personal governing endeavors?
Reclaiming your personal sovereignty is NOT formulaic. It's unique for each individual, but know this important point about the Law of Sovereignty. All created and man-made things are governed. Whatever area in your life that God is calling you to govern or manage that you DO NOT reclaim, that part of your life will govern you. It's either govern or be governed!
Paul said it well in Romans. To paraphrase, whatever you habitually yield or submit yourself to will govern your life. It's not something you can opt out of either.
Why is personal sovereignty so important? Only your God-given sovereignty and God's grace will equip you today to stand against the forces in this evil world.
The Bible reveals to us that the KNOWLEDGE of God is a key component in order for us to govern what God has called us to govern. We are to live a life in submission to the knowledge that we have of God. Furthermore, a true knowledge of God will result in an understanding of the nature of evil. This is not only important, it's foundational.
The Bible is also clear that God is Sovereign. There is no one higher or with greater authority than God. He rules over ALL things. However, God gives us room to operate (freewill) and to manage our lives. While we are free to govern, we are not exempt from the consequences of our choices. God knows that we will exercise our freedom and create problems for ourselves along the way. However, God promises to work ALL things according to counsel of His will… for those who love Him.
Jesus is the best example of a sovereign being while in the flesh. He was sovereign over His mind, His emotions, His flesh and over the material and spiritual world including the powers, principalities, rulers of darkness and spiritual wickedness in high places. Like us mortals, Jesus was also born into a man-made world governed by the same systems that govern our lives. Yet He never yielded His sovereignty to anyone, AND He decided what systems He would participate in, the level of His participation, and WHY He participated.
The "why" is important, because Jesus did not come to change or to destroy worldly, man-made systems. He didn't try to change evil or convert Satan. Jesus came to rescue us from this present evil age that we are living in. Jesus was not of this world in the same way that we are called to not be of this world… to have the mind of Christ.
So what is the first territory in our lives that we are called to govern? It is our SOUL. We manage our flesh through the governance of our soul. To those in the body of Christ, I ask you: how do you think the Church is doing with managing our soul? I'd say there is much room for improvement, and it starts by reclaiming our personal sovereignty.
What can we learn about reclaiming our personal sovereignty? Here are four (4) key takeaways to embrace including a fifth item for encouragement.
It'll cost you everything… but It's REWARDING.
Join us next week as Kim reveals several examples of Biblical peoples that fulfilled what God is calling us to do today by way of reclaiming our sovereignty.
Romans 6:16; Hosea 4:6; 2 Peter 1:3-4; Col 1:16-17; Job 42:2; Eph 1:11; Ps 37:3-6; Matt 4:1-11; John 10:16-21; Eph 6:12-18
