Episode 36: Part 2 ( Identifying types of Mentors) in Mentor Relationships in Professional Development on the State of Re Podcast

We discuss falling in love with "the Process."
With an interview with the late Anthony Bourdain (R.I.P.) and the The XX - Intro track remix.

We discuss and identify the 3 Mentors you should have in your life to help set a foundation and standard of excellence to keep you inspired!

These are the Inspirational / Traditional Mentors:

  • Box 1: The Standard – the Inspirational person/people that you read books on, listen to their podcast and interviews, and follow their journey and role model behavior and habits that will help you become successful (For example for Prof. DEAN: Tupac, Jay-Z, Jack Ma, Bruce Lee)
  • Box 2: The Master of the Craft  - Someone who's mastered what your profession, and does what you do, but has done it at a high level. ( Someone you look up too, someone you want to be measured up too one day) (someone you respect in regards to their work ethic, philosophy, core values and success) (for example for Prof. DEAN: Bill Simmons in the podcasting world. Jim Kwik from Kwik Brain, or Professors like Donnelle McGee, Paul Spickard, and Viet Thanh Nguyen)
  • Box 3: Senior Mentor - Someone who's been in your shoes and profession for over 7-10 years ahead of you.  It could be in a competitor org. or same organization, but this person can help you navigate and understand the long game, professional development and politics.
