Publisher's Summary:
Inspired by the real psychology study popularized by the New York Times and its "Modern Love" column, this contemporary YA is perfect for fans of Eleanor and Park.
Two random strangers. Two secrets. Thirty-six questions to make them fall in love.
Hildy and Paul both have their own reasons for joining the university psychology study that asks the simple question: Can love be engineered?
The study consists of 36 questions, ranging from "what is your most terrible memory?" to "when did you last sing to yourself?" By the time Hildy and Paul have made it to the end of the questionnaire, they've laughed and cried and lied and thrown things and run away and come back and driven each other almost crazy. They've also each discovered the painful secret the other was trying so hard to hide. But have they fallen in love?
Told in the language of modern romance - texting, Q&A, IM - this clever high-concept YA is full of humor and heart. As soon as you've finished listening, you'll be searching for your own stranger to ask the 36 questions. Maybe you'll even fall in love.
Critic Reviews:
"I'm completely obsessed with this book. Filled with some of the wittiest, most authentic dialogue between two strangers I've ever read, Grant's 36 Questions That Changed My Mind About You is one part true romance, one part grit and compassion, and one part sass. If there is a more modern, more relevant YA story than this one out there, I've yet to see it!" (Jill MacKenzie, author of Spin the Sky)
"Full of heart, humor, and the occasional flying fish, 36 Questions That Changed My Mind About You is an absolute delight. I dare you not to fall in love with this book!" (Rachel Bateman, author of Someone Else's Summer)

Predictable, but cute!
I thought this book was so cute! I'm very familiar with the study the book was based on, so I was really excited to pick it up and see how it was played out in book format. I read the book in one sitting, and really enjoyed it! It's a YA romance about two teens completing 36 questions with each other with the intention being a psychologist will study the results and see if they feel connected or attracted to each other after answering them all. What I will say is that the book is very predictable. It's a typical girl-meets-boy story with lots and lots of misunderstandings until they eventually start to understand each other, etc etc etc. Despite the predictable plot (which is pretty much a given in this type of book) I found the story and characters enjoyable. There were some drawings throughout the book, which I really liked and thought was a nice touch!
The one qualm I had was that there was a ton of build up to some bad event that happened in Hildy's life, and when it finally came to light at the end of the book, it seemed like there was going to be more resolution with that particular storyline, but the book ended and I felt like it was rather abrupt and that there could have been some more closure in that regard.
Overall, if you're looking for a book that's light and cute and has a happy ending, this is the book for you!
It's a great back and forth of dialogue between the two characters
It took some time getting into the rhythm of this book.
