Wafa' Tarnowska was born in Lebanon and has lived and worked in Australia, India, Cyprus, Poland, the UK and Dubai. She is currently based in the UK dreaming of a hideaway in the land of Dante. In her work, Wafa' strives to create a valuable bridge between East and West, helping to break down the stereotypical images people have of one another.
Wafa' is the author of several children's books translated into numerous languages (Dutch, Danish, Korean, French, Arabic, Spanish and Portuguese) and two books of quotes for adults. She is also a radio broadcaster, lecturer and adores travelling. Her top three countries currently are Italy, of course, as well as Burma and Poland. She has translated numerous books from English to Arabic and four plays from Arabic to English.
Her “Arabian Nights” published by Barefoot Books, won the American Folklore Society Aesop Accolade, the Moonbeam Award Gold Medal Winner and the Smithsonian Magazine Notable Book for Children in 2011.
