  • Ep. 50: The Story of Johnny Oliveira
In this episode, Gannon and Bryce interview a former teammate of Bryce's, Johnny Oliveira. Bryce and Johnny spent a year together playing baseball at the collegiate level. They both played for Highland Community College in Freeport, Illinois. Ironically, they both share a birthday of August 20th and their parents have the same names, John and Dawn. From the start they established a brother-like bond and connected on and off the field. Within this interview, we take the time to start at the beginning of Johnny's career before Highland when he had 0 offers and no place to continue his playing career. He then got an offer to play at Highland and ran with that opportunity. He discusses the importance of the JUCO Route (which we hit on in last week's episode with Jack & Cam as well) and how much it impacted his career to this day. After the JUCO experience and COVID-19 hit, Johnny's recruiting process slowed until his former hitting coach helped him get a spot with Division 1, Charleston Southern. While at Charleston Southern, Johnny had a .311 BA, 38 H's, 5 DB's, 3 TR's, 2 HR's, 22 R's, and 25 RBI's. To have a stat line like that at the D1 is special and rarely does it occur. He is now in the transfer portal, which he gives us an inside sneak peek at his recruiting process (without giving away too much). Ultimately, within this episode we get to see Johnny's colorful personality, the route of his baseball career, his favorite playing/non-playing memories, and his plans for the future. If you are looking to learn about a talented athlete who has worked his tail off to get where he is today, you are in the right place. This man is the definition of an inspiration when it comes to sports!

  • Ep. 49: The Juco Route: Jack Heimer & Cam Bardell
In this episode, Gannon interviews Bryce, Jack, and Cam. All three of them graduated from Highland Community College in Freeport, Illinois while playing baseball at the JUCO level. Highland is a D2 JUCO baseball program that many people are recruited to play at. However, throughout this episode Gannon asks the three of them questions about their JUCO experience. They were asked to describe the difference between the "JUCO Route" and what a "JUCO Bandit" is. Then, they dove into their favorite memories on and off the field at the JUCO level. After discussing those memories, they gave an in-depth look at what JUCO offers compared to NAIA, D3, D2, and D1. JUCO is an experience that not everyone will have, but those that do will never forget that special route that they took. Ultimately, the best advice that was given throughout the entirety of this episode was that if you want to play the sport in college, do everything in your power to ensure you continue playing that sport. Live in the moment, instead of worrying about your possible future regrets. Sports do not last forever, and Bryce, Jack, and Cam will explain that thoroughly. Bryce was an OF, more specifically LF during his time with the Highland Cougars. Cam and Jack were PO's and incredible motivators to the hitters as well. If you are a student in high school, or even a parent of a high schooler... Quit forcing a four-year university onto your children right out of high school. The degree you get is the same piece of paper, just a different logo on it. Bryce, Jack, and Cam all have their Associates Degree and are now after their Bachelor's Degree with their new schools. To all the JUCO Bandits out there, we hope you enjoyed this one! We also hope if you are debating the JUCO Route that this episode helps you understand, IT IS THE WAY TO GO!

  • Ep. 48: The Story of Gannon Ruckman
In this episode, Bryce interviews Gannon. This is an interesting and awesome episode because typically you see Bryce and Gannon on seperate screens on the zoom call, however Gannon was home for a week after his Central Methodist baseball team finally wrapped up their season. Their season went insanely well and they have everything to be proud of. They made it to the NAIA College Baseball World Series and finished 2nd in the National Championship. Gannon is our Co-Host, so to get an in-depth look on how his season went, his goals for the future, where the CMU team is headed, and summer ball talk was awesome. If you are a fan of Gannon, make sure to check out this episode because he is a very good athlete, but an even better person. This is an episode we will cherish forever being able to do it together and have a different look to the podcast.

  • Ep. 47: Support Local Communities
In this episode, Gannon and I dive into the importance of supporting your local communities. Instead of being joined by Josh Buisker (TikTok Manager) this episode, we were joined by Jemea Green. Jemea works at the News Station in Rockford, Illinois at Channel 13 WREX and for her first big story, she has decided to tell ours. We were fortunate to have her join this episode and look forward to our audience getting to know her when she tells our story. For us personally, we live in the 815 area in Freeport, Illinois. Some surrounding areas consist of Dakota, Lena, Orangeville, Dakota, Durand, Pecatonica, Rockford, and Stockton. Two local athletes growing up in the 815 area being Fred VanVleet and James Robinson have shown it is possible to win at the highest level in sports and still find ways to give back to your local community. Outside of sports, your community depends on you to provide so it can continue to flourish. In this episode, we give an inside look at just how important our podcast has been to giving back to our community and even some future plans that we have for the summer ahead with our community. All the money in the world can make it seem like everything is perfect, however with support, love, trust, and power we can bring our communities back together.

  • Ep. 46: The Story of Kurt Hines
In this episode, Gannon and I interview an incredible head football coach, but an even better man. His positive attitude and growth mindset is incredibly contagious. The energy from this episode is absolutely unmatchable. Kurt, is a man who has been married for over 26 years with his best friend. He has coached at multiple high schools, including Christian High School, Goffstown High School, Bedford High School, Souhegan High School, and his current school being Coronado High School. For Coach Hines, it is bigger than football. Football simply scratches the surface when it comes to getting to know Kurt the football coach and the man himself. He is a motivational speaker who works towards empowering young adults and giving them a chance to grow with a positive mindset. Learning about this man was an absolute pleasure and this episode touched on several points that Gannon and I have already covered. We know that this episode, if it finds the right person will make an impact for the better on them.

  • Ep. 45: Celebrating: Yes or No?
In this episode Gannon, Bryce, and Josh discuss if it is 'disrespectful' to celebrate on a football field, baseball diamond, etc... We talk about multiple scenarios where it's okay, and also where the line is drawn. We dive into some good stuff in this episode and everything within it is worth the listen for the current athletes, fans, coaches, and future athletes as well.

  • Ep. 44: The Story of Gabe Howard
In this episode, Gannon and Bryce interview a special talent who will be graduating in the coming weeks. He is a stud athlete and his name is Gabe Howard. He has been an up-and-coming star over the past few years with the Du-Pec (Durand-Pecatonica) Co-Op football team. His physical attributes and mental football IQ are off the charts. There are three seniors this season that cracked the top ten in NUIC history (WR yards). Coming in at #8 is Gabe Howard, #9 is Brennan Carlson (Aquin), and #10 is Andrew Bowman (Aquin). These three seniors only had the opportunity to play six games this season, yet they all three made history. Their names are forever etched in the NUIC history books. A major shoutout goes to Kyle Kampmier who covers the whole football conference and gave us Gabe's career stats. Those career stats are: 71 receptions, 1,328 yards, 16 TD's (who tied Bryce Carlson #7 in NUIC history for TD's), while averaging 18.7 yards per catch. These stats speak volumes to the game that Gabe Howard has. Unfortunately, he will not be continuing his football career in college. He will be attending Drake University this coming fall. However, throughout this episode we get to take a look at his career, who he is as a person, and get major inspiration for incoming freshman and area athletes. The Du-Pec Rivermen have a very bright future and Gabe makes sure to explain that during this interview. Ultimately, Gabe is an amazing young man who has a very bright future in anything he does. His athletic career is a prime example of it. If you are looking for an inspirational story then you are at the right place.
