365DaysOfPhilosophy 193 — Argument Revision Exercises

Listen Later

You can review the characteristics of arguments on the earlier 365 Days Of Philosophy post here; for the following arguments:

(a) Identify the conclusion.

(b) Name the fallacy.

  1. I have the right to play the trumpet in public places. The cemetery is a public place, therefore I have the right to play the trumpet in the cemetery.
  2. As taxes rise, local businesses fail; it can be argued that the higher taxes are responsible for the failure of local businesses.
  3. So, we’re facing the end of wholesome traditions with the rise of gay marriage; when more countries allow it, it changes the expectations of marriage, more marriages occur and it completely dilutes the meaning of what marriage is meant to mean, and allows anyone to make up their own new traditions and abandon the good old ones.
  4. She cleaned the kitchen and then got sick. So, there must have been something in the kitchen that made her unwell.
  5. Dreams are nothing more than wish fulfilment; Freud’s body of work proves it and he’s an expert in the field of psychology.
