The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) group

was announced as the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize winner in Oslo on Friday.

The group began in Melbourne ten years ago and was recognised as

drawing attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any

use of nuclear weapons and for its groundbreaking efforts to achieve a

treaty-based prohibition on such weapons.
