365DaysOfPhilosophy 5 - Questions For Extended Answers

Listen Later

Here’s a few discussion questions (and these can be extended answer questions):

  • Is the unexamined life worth living?
  • Made famous through Plato’s Apology (38a5–6), apparently said by Socrates at his trial for impiety and corrupting youth, for which he was subsequently sentenced to death.

New Philosopher — The unexamined life is not worth living by Simon Longstaff.

    • Must one love wisdom to seek it?
    • Authentic self — New Philosopher — You are your life, and nothing else by Antonia Case

      • Can we ever agree about the act of thinking philosophically if we have different interpretations of what philosophy means?
      • Does knowledge equal virtue?
      • Virtue is something we’ll look at later in this series, but you might like to start reflecting on these four questions and finding a few resources to sort our your own thoughts on the topic.

When writing an extended response, there’s a couple of resources that I’d suggest checking out — they include:

        · A Brief Guide to Writing the Philosophy Paper (pdf) by the Harvard College Writing Centre

        · Tackling the Philosophy Essay — A Student Guide by Claire Benn, Christina Cameron, Amanda Cawston, and Shyane Siriwardena.
