The Bible says that all are given a measure of faith. Have you ever wondered what the Bible says about how you can increase your faith?
Today's episode shows a clear path for increasing your faith through God's word in 2 Peter 1:1-10. Kim's prior teachings on coming out from the systems of the world and reclaiming your sovereignty are important to understand today's teaching.
Everything you have has been given to you. Everything you believe has been taught to you. Our beliefs have an effect on our lives. However, we all have a choice of what we believe or don't believe. Increasing one's faith provides clarity, boldness and confidence of knowing God and His son Jesus Christ while living in a hostile and dark world.
Read 2 Peter 1:1-10
Peter is writing to believers who have received faith equal to his own. He states that our faith comes through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ. Grace and peace is our through the knowledge of God and Jesus. Divine power has been given to you through the knowledge of Him.
Key takeaways: Everything we have (e.g. faith, grace, peace, etc.) that is needed for life and godliness have been given to us by God through the knowledge God and His Son. Everything godly thing has been given through God's divine power.
Let's continue. From the good things God has given us, God also provides precious and very great promises in order to escape the corruption in the world because of lust and to share in His divine nature.
What IS God's divine nature? The Bible says that God (Father, Son, Spirit) is Love; God is Light; God is Spirit; God is Judge; God is Just; God is Holy; God is Righteous; God is One; God is Faithful; Jesus is Truth. God is Longsuffering. The word "IS"… present tense means that God's nature never changes. He wants you to share in ALL that He is -- His essence -- and not merely imitate God's characteristics.
You are either operating under God's divine nature or the sin nature. There is no such thing as "human nature". The flesh is an instrument of the sin nature and has already been condemned. This holds true for both believers and non-believers. It is God's divine nature that helps us escape the corruption in the world.
This is the pathway to increase our faith, to develop our confidence, to develop our knowledge of God and how He works, and to understand the world in which we live. Peter is telling us the pathway to increase our faith in verse 5 "For this reason, you must make every effort to supplement [increase, accrue, accumulate] your faith with goodness, and goodness with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with endurance, and endurance with godliness, and godliness with mutual affection, and mutual affection with love."
When you do good or are kind to others, you are affirming your faith. As your faith develops and you affirm your faith with goodness; when you receive the knowledge of God's love, you become more secure and confident in your inner man. You are more able to give and express the essence of God in your life and in relationship with others. The goodness that comes from God and must first be received… for you cannot give what you have not received.
However, with goodness and knowledge requires self-control. Again, self-control is a fruit of the Spirit that also must be received. Without self-control knowledge puffs people up. When we add self-control we develop endurance, and endurance with godliness. Godliness is humility… and godliness with mutual affection. Notice the pathway.
The more we receive God, the more we know God, the greater our love and compassion is for His people. When you participate in God's divine nature, you are increasing your faith so that you will be effective and fruitful in the knowledge of Him.
Peter is clear - anyone who lacks these things are short-sighted and blind. He goes on to say, "for if you do these things you will never stumble."
Romans 12:3; 2 Peter 1:1-10
